Elden Ring

Players take on the role of a character called the Tarnished, an exile who returns to the Lands Between after being summoned by the guidance of grace. The Tarnished’s goal is to defeat the demigods, collect the Great Runes, restore the Elden Ring, and become the new Elden Lord. Throughout the journey, players meet many unique characters, uncover hidden lore, and make choices that determine which of several possible endings they receive.

Unlike previous FromSoftware games, Elden Ring features a large open world that players can explore freely. The world contains forests, castles, caves, underground cities, mountains, swamps, and deserts, all connected without loading screens. Players can travel on horseback using a magical mount named Torrent, making exploration faster and allowing access to many hidden locations and secrets.

Combat is one of the game’s main features. Players can fight using swords, axes, spears, bows, magic, or a combination of different weapons and spells. Every enemy and boss has unique attack patterns, requiring players to learn their movements, dodge attacks, block with shields, or parry at the right moment. The game is known for being challenging but rewarding, encouraging players to improve their skills through practice.

Character customization is another important part of Elden Ring. Players choose a starting class and can improve their character by increasing attributes such as Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, Faith, and Endurance. As players gain experience, they can create many different character builds, such as powerful warriors, agile fighters, spellcasters, or hybrids that combine melee combat with magic.

Elden Ring also includes online multiplayer features. Players can cooperate with others to defeat difficult bosses or invade other players’ worlds for player-versus-player (PvP) combat. Messages left by other players can also provide helpful hints or humorous jokes, adding a unique community aspect to the game.

In 2024, FromSoftware released a major expansion titled Shadow of the Erdtree. The expansion introduced a new region called the Land of Shadow, along with new bosses, weapons, spells, armor, enemies, and story content. It was praised for maintaining the high quality of the original game while expanding its world and lore.

Elden Ring is considered one of the greatest action role-playing games ever made. Its combination of challenging gameplay, deep character progression, rewarding exploration, and rich fantasy world has made it one of the most influential and successful games of the modern era.
